The King-Queen Combo
The king-queen combo is one of the oldest, but most forgotten about combos in Chez.
Normal Use
- You may play a king and a queen together as one action. Doing so does not force you to roll for doubles; these are two different cards.
- When playing the king-queen combo, you may perform the usual action of the king, with one extra ability: if you do not like the card you obtain, you may give the card back to the original player (and they must give you back yours), and try again. This player may choose to shuffle their cards first, i.e., you may still end up picking the same card, however, you at least have a chance not to.
- Note that you do not have to use this ability. It is up to you.
- Whenever you play the king-queen combo, it is up to you to decide which card goes on top and which on the bottom. Whichever card is on the bottom of the combo must be valid, though.
Playing Double
You may play two kings and two queens, (or three kings and three queens, etc.), if you are able to.
- For these cases, treat the king-queen combo as if it were one card, i.e., upgrade its function and roll for doubles (or triples, etc.).
- Note that you must play one combo on top of the other, i.e., you could not play [king, king, queen, queen], but you could play [queen, king, king, queen].
- Also note that each combo must also be valid as normal.
Upgraded Functionality
- Each time you upgrade the combo, i.e., through doubles, you are allowed an extra chance to pick the card you want from your opponent.
- If the king you play is already upgraded, (e.g., with the royal court), you get to choose an extra card from your opponent, but if you choose to try again, you must try again for all of these cards.
- If the queen you play is already upgraded, you upgrade the combo as normal, i.e., you get an extra chance to pick up the card from your opponent.
- If both are upgraded, this means you get to pick two cards, and try again twice.
- If you're lucky enough to be able to double up upgraded combos, it's best to refer to the below:
- +1 extra try for every extra combo played at once
- Note that you still need to roll for doubles, triples, etc if doing so.
- +1 extra card to pick for every upgraded king (or +2 for twice upgraded, etc.)
- +1 extra try for every upgraded queen (or +2 for twice upgraded, etc.)
